I was just reading an interesting article in one of our local papers. The Sanibel Sea School students were studying tides and currents, and more specifically how tarpon larvae flow with the currents. We are in the middle of nesting season which runs from May until October and numbers are way up over last year. According to SCCF, there have been 274 nests on Sanibel with 98 hatches so far this year, compared to 156 nests last year with 52 hatches for the same timeframe. This was a good year for nesting on Sanibel’s beaches. There were 12 babies born compared to 7 last year. SCCF (Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation) also reports that here were two Wilson’s Plover nests with a total of 6 babies.
