SEA TURTLE NESTING SEASON TIPS

Sea turtle nesting season is underway and Sanibel’s 11 miles of Gulf shoreline have more nesting activity than any other beach in Lee County. The following guidelines will help ensure the survival of our adorable hatchlings.

  1. Turn off or shield lights near the beaches.
  2. Remove furniture or any items that may act as a barrier from dusk until dawn.
  3. Fill in any holes and level sandcastles so hatch-lings have a clear path to the ocean.
  4. Pick up all trash. Sea turtles will mistakenly eat man made debris and plastic.
  5. Keep pets leashed.
